For a painful but funny look at Terri Schiavo's situation, check out "Terri Schiavo Spared by 'Endangered' Designation" on Scott Ott's blog, Scrappleface.
So glad to see you joined this, but I think you have your personal reasons for identifying with this young woman's plight. Hope all is well with you, Sunnye.
I do, Caoilfhionn. When our son was 16, he was stricken with burst blood vessels in his brain and paralyzed, totally. He could blink his eyes and that's all. He lived for six weeks in that condition until his kidneys and liver broke down and he was put on life support machines. When the last spark of electricity left his brain, we were advised to take him off the machines. We did. Cao, the difference between him living on those machines and in death stunned me. I've never recovered from the shock.
Death is final. Period. Even a tiny spark of life should be treasured -- and Terri is a warm, live, functioning individual.
It's going to hurt if they kill her and I don't think I'm going to want to let it drop if they do.
